Take Care of Your Back and Spine
There is more than one way to treat and manage pain. At Thorold Chiropractic Centre, Dr. Bob uses variety of techniques to address the variety of injuries and conditions he may encounter in a day.
Our Range of Chiropractic Techniques
From adjusting tables to blocking, Dr. Bob uses chiropractic techniques suited to the particular condition of the patient after an in-depth consultation. These are some of the techniques that Dr. Bob uses at the Thorold Chiropractic Centre:
Active Release Technique (ART)
This technique looks at treating adhesions that develop within muscles and between soft tissue such as nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue because of acute and repetitive injuries.
These adhesions can affect the muscle function and alter joint motion. ART works to release these adhesions and restore muscle function. This technique can help athletes, office or factory workers who engage in repetitive activities over continued period of time.
Diversified Technique
Diversified technique is one of the most popular chiropractic procedures. It is a type of manipulation/adjustment method that uses a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust carried out by hand, sometimes with the help of a table or block. The combination of the two forces causes a joint cavitation. A joint cavitation is the release of gas in the synovial fluid of the joint, forming tiny gas bubbles due to the release of pressure on the joint. Much like the bubbles formed in a bottle of soda when the cap is opened releasing the pressure on the fluid. This technique is designed to restore joint and neurological function to the treated area, resulting in pain relief.
Thompson Terminal Point Technique
The Thompson technique uses an adjusting table with a pneumatically-driven, segmented drop system, which quickly lowers the section of the patient’s body corresponding with the spinal region being adjusted. The doctor thrusts at high speed, using minimal force, because while the thrust initiates movement, the fast drop carries the joint through the remainder of its range of motion.
Toggle/Recoil Technique
This is a common chiropractic technique that involves the practitioner using an extremely fast but very light thrust on the problem area. The speed of the thrust helps to reset the joints and area muscles and to restore range of motion as well as proper nerve function.
Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT)
The SOT is a philosophy that considers any structural changes affecting the dura can also affect any area of the spine. The dura covers the entire central nervous system, including the brain and the spinal cord. Within SOT, there are techniques based on this idea of structural change.
Craniopathy is a method based on research that showed cranial bone movement and Dr. Bernard DeJarnette’s (SOT creator) conclusions that structural change of the cranial bones might affect movement of cerebrospinal fluid.
Another SOT method is called “blocking,” which involves having blocks placed beneath the pelvis. “Blocking” helps to normalize joint positions on both sides of the spine at the same time.
SOT can be used with other chiropractic techniques, and practitioners of the method tend to give patients nutritional counselling.
Each technique is designed to address specific target areas. For treatment options that are tailored specifically to your condition, please call Thorold Chiropractic Centre to book a thorough
